The California Firefighter license plate is limited to registered vehicles of active and retired firefighters, and surviving spouses and children of fallen firefighters. If you are a surviving family member of a fallen firefighter please click here to order your license plate.

The California Firefighter License Plate is a distinctive way to show pride in your profession and support the California Firefighters Memorial in Capitol Park, Sacramento.

There are only eleven specialty plates on the highways and byways of California. Rights to the iconic Backdraft movie poster were donated for exclusive use on California’s firefighter specialty plates.

A portion of the initial order and renewal fee for all plates directly benefits the California Fire Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, which built and maintains the California Firefighters Memorial and supports the families of fallen firefighters.

Please note: Plates may be personalized with 2-6 characters (6 characters maximum, 5 for motorcycles). Please provide a first and second choice option if you would like to personalize your plates.

The DMV has the right to refuse any combination of letters and numbers that may carry connotations offensive to good taste and decency, or which would be misleading, or in conflict with any license plate series now issued. If the configuration is not available at the time of processing by the DMV, a refund will be made to you. If the personalized firefighter license plates are to be used on a leased vehicle or company vehicle, a Statement of Facts may be required at the time the plates are issued.

Personalized plates will need to be picked up at the DMV or AAA office closest to you. Non-personalized, sequential plates will be mailed directly to you (though we can't mail plates to P.O. boxes). If you have questions or prefer to order your plates by phone, please call: (800) 890-3213.

Your application will need to be processed and verified. Please expect approximately 12-16 weeks to receive your plates or notification of pick-up. If we don’t have record of your status as a firefighter, or as a qualified survivor of a deceased firefighter, we will contact you shortly.
